We're Almost Green

No, not the beans. Although that is what Arabic coffee beans look like before roasting. By purchasing coffee from our supplier, both Your Sanctuary Coffee and our supplier are committed to supporting the farmers that grow quality coffee and practice social responsibility as a way of life.

Our supplier was founded in the early 90s and has roasted organic coffees since 1996. Through them, we are able to offer a comprehensive selection of specialty grade coffees with an emphasis on artisan roasting. Our supplier's and thusly our coffees are certified as organic annually by the California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) under the USDA regulations.

Our supplier travels the world each year seeking out family farms and cooperatives that meet our quality standards. By establishing personal relationships with farmers who support long-range investments in land and people, they insure consistency and integrity in our products.
They enter into long-term at fixed prices to ensure that these growers stay in business, and more importantly, are profitable enough to continue to invest in their farms and production methods.

Our eco and socially conscious supplier says "Superior coffee can only be created if the land, and people who grow it are respected."

Your Sanctuary Coffee likes calling this "keeping our world around us green."

By producing premium quality coffees and educating coffee drinkers about their importance leads directly to stability and a better life for these farmers. That is why our supplier emphasize quality and personal relationships with growers. They work with several organizations that certify that our coffees as grown in a socially responsible manner. These include; the Rainforest Alliance, Fair Trade and Utz Kapeh, as comparer to just one or two. Mandating a particular method of certification by trying to define what is "fair" narrows the number of growers they can work with. Many growers do not qualify, or may not be able to obtain certification for a variety of social, economic or geographic reasons. They too deserve support. A brief overview of each of these organizations will follow soon.

Here's some local greenery.

Our supplier is (at this time) the only one in North America roasted in an ecologically correct roaster.
Their roaster is uniquely designed to greatly reduce the harmful exhaust and by-products of the roast process while using less energy than others. The whole drum method of roasting ensures that no flame ever comes into contact with our coffee beans, creating flavor differences that you can taste.

In their facility, our supplier provides quality jobs for their employees, all of whom live in the Bay area, including those who work in our warehousing and roasting operations. Each of their employees earns a living wage and receives on the job training, health care, sick time, and paid time off.

Just another way that Your Sanctuary Coffee, and you,
our customers, doing our part to help keep America

and the rest of the world a little greener.
