About Anonymity
What is Anonymity?
Why Should I Care?
Is it a promise?
Here is our policy regarding our member's anonymity.
Definition - What is anonymity?
According to World English Dictionary
Anonymous - adjective
1. from or by a person, author, etc, whose name is unknown or withheld:
an anonymous letter
2. having no known name
3. lacking individual characteristics; unexceptional
4. denoting an organization which provides help to applicants who remain
anonymous: Alcoholics Anonymous
1) Visitors to A Sanctuary are not tracked.
Additionally, most anyone that browses the internet can do so anonymously through their
browser or third party software. As a result, we cannot determine if a particular person
has accessed A Sanctuary.
2) Those individuals who join Your Sanctuary,
our forum, do so simply by supplying a valid email address and
then choosing their user name. This means that those that have registered to access
Your Sanctuary are anonymous, however, our software does retain the connection
particulars.
3) The only way to "break" the anonymity of a member
is if one of the following conditions occur:
A) The member posts or otherwise reveals that they are going to intentionally cause themselves
severe bodily harm
(as some survivors do self-harm, this would not normally be included,
as typically "most" self-harm is not severe)
B) The member posts or otherwise reveals that they are going to intentionally cause
severe bodily harm to another.
C) The member (if under 18 years of age) posts or otherwise
reveals that they are being abused or assaulted and will not report.
We will first try to assist the member in finding a safe method that they can use to
report (an exception to this may be if the member is in another country and has posted that they cannot leave
or do not have another location where they will be safe).
D) The member posts or otherwise reveals that they have been threatened with severe
bodily harm or death and will not act in a way to prevent the attack or assault.
E) Lastly, when duly served with a legal court order requiring us to release the
information as stated in the court order.
This isn't just a matter of following the State and Federal laws, it is a moral responsibility
that we must act according to what the average person would expect.
We believe that any survivor will agree that suicide is both a selfish and permanent answer to
a temporary problem even though each of us knows and understands that surviving doesn't mean
we will be "all better" tommorow.
We may add to or modify this somewhat in the near future.
