Blue Crystal   -» Created for our younger members, and the younger public.

Crisis Hotlines and Online Resources. » » »

We ask that you read through this page as it is a condensed description of what you will find here.
This is a different side of A Sanctuary designed for younger visitors and primarily focuses on resilience and encouragement.
Because some that are younger may not know what resilience is, here is the definition.
Re*sil*ience
noun
1. the power or ability to return to the original form, position, etc., after being bent, compressed, or stretched; elasticity.
2. ability to recover readily from illness, depression, adversity, or the like; buoyancy.

By using this different perspective, focusing on resilience and encouragement, it is hoped that positive encouragment will help you, the survivor, in your healing.
A Sanctuary is a safe and supportive site, that offers information, and ideas. There is also a forum called Your Sanctuary, where we can talk about our challenges, and by supporting each other, we can help each other to grow and heal.

If you are a survivor;
  • No matter who you are ;

  • No matter where you are ;

  • No matter what person hurt you ;

  • No matter how badly they damaged you ;

  • No matter how broken and shattered you feel ;

  • You don't have to feel alone anymore, not now, not tomorrow, not ever.

~ Is A Sanctuary is just for survivors?   Not at all.

A Sanctuary is open to everyone, and provide information that is not typically provided on other sites. This information is intended to help inform the public with an "inside look" at both abuse and assault. While many other sites will provide statistics and "standard" information, it is our intention to let you "see first-hand" the effects of abuse and assault.

We will do so by telling, and showing you truths. Something that we have not found at other sites that pertain to abuse and assault. With their permission, we will even quote portions of some of our member's stories or truths. Informative videos have been created that are will to help non-survivors to understand the challenges that many survivors of abuse and assault face, sometimes daily.
Other survivor's challenges are triggered by;
  • something seen (a table, a flower, or a person that looks like thier attacker)
  • a smell (cologne or body odor)
  • a taste/texture (something that is salty or even the use of hair conditioner)
  • or a sound (the slamming of a door or a creaking sound from stairs).

~ What about your forum, Your Sanctuary? Is it just for survivors?   Also not true.

Your Sanctuary, our forum, is also multi-sided.
It has a private side just for survivors, only survivors can access, that has many boards (think of them as rooms) for the various aspects of "survivorship".
Here's a general list of many of these private "rooms":
  1. "Rooms" for good news, good days, non-triggery challenges, and victories.
  2. "Rooms" for bad news, dark days, triggery subjects and challenges, and defeats (all survivors have access and is a place to talk about verbal and physical abuse or assault).
  3. A special "room" that is actually called "The Survivor's SCREAMING Room". Here survivors can SCREAM, cuss (use bad words), and use as graphic descriptives as they choose. This room is intentionally locked so that other survivors cannot reply. If survivors want a reply, there is another room to post (without the SCREAMING, cussing, or graphic description) and other survivors can offer ideas or techniques they have used.
  4. "The Sexual Survivor's SCREAMING Room" (same as above, but only accessible by survivors of sexual abuse or assault).
  5. "Rooms" for those that are separate for those that have been sexually abused or assaulted.
  6. "Rooms" for those that are separate for those that self-harm in some manner (external damage, over-eating, under-eating, and more).
  7. "Rooms" for those that are separate for those that have D.I.D. (Dis-assocaitive Identity Disorder).

Your Sanctuary, also has a "private" side that is only for non-survivors (those that are married to, a partner of, or a family member, and those that care about survivors for a variety of reasons). Neither Professionals, nor Survivors, can access these areas.
Here's a general list of many of these private "rooms":
  1. A "Non-survivor's SCREAMING Room". As stated above, non-survivors can SCREAM, cuss (use bad words), and use as graphic descriptives as they choose. This room is intentionally locked so that other non-survivors cannot reply. If non-survivors want a reply, there is another room to post (without the SCREAMING, cussing, or graphic description) and other non-survivors can offer ideas or techniques they have used.
  2. More will be added later.

Lastly, Your Sanctuary, has an area set aside for Professionals that work in various fields that survivors visit such as;
  • Law Enforcement personnel -
              (some survivors will ask where you were when they were attacked)
  • Emergency Room doctors and nurses -
              (we need you to be gentle and reassuring)
  • Social Workers -
              (most survivors will ask that you listen, not just hear the words they say)
  • Psychiatrists and Psychologists -
              (many will say "it's too much", please be patient with your patient)

There are "rooms" for Professionals. Here's a list:
  1. A "room" to be asked questions by Survivors.
  2. A "room" to ask questions of Survivors.
              (both only accessible by Professionals and Survivors)

  3. A "room" to be asked questions by Non-survivors.
  4. A "room" to ask questions of Non-survivors
              (both only accessible by Professionals and Non-survivors).

  5. A "room" to have discussions with Senior Forum Staff Members
              (only accessible by Professionals and Senior Forum Staff Members).
